Elliot Glover is a Warrant Officer in the Royal Navy. He is the Coxswain of the Vanguard class ballistic missile submarine HMS Vigil.

Background[]

Personal[]

Based on his accent, it is likely Glover was born and raised somewhere in Northern England. He presents himself as an approachable and calmly spoken, yet authoritative figure.

Professional[]

Like all submariners, Glover is a member of the Royal Navy Submarine Service. As Coxswain, he is the highest ranked Senior Rating on board Vigil, and frequently liaises with both Cpt. Neil Newsome and LtCdr. Mark Prentice. He holds seniority over all Senior and Junior Ratings, and is responsible for discipline, wellbeing and morale amongst the enlisted ranks. However, he has no authority over Commissioned Officers.

To distinguish himself from other Ratings, he wears a different, more formal variant of uniform with his rank displayed on epaulettes as opposed to his chest. Despite not being a Commissioned Officer, he is still referred to as "Sir" by Junior and Senior Ratings.

Series 1[]

Episode 1[]

During a patrol, an incident occurs when an unknown vessel close in proximity to the HMS Vigil pulls down the commercial fishing trawler Mhairi Finnea. Sonar operator CPO Craig Burke is the first to realise the ship is in danger, and urges that the submarine surface to assist the trawlermen. His concerns are dismissed by Cpt. Neil Newsome and LtCdr. Mark Prentice, who summon Glover to relieve Burke of his position and replace him with CPO Tara Kierly. Glover urges an angry Burke to return to his bunk and "cool off".

A short time later, Burke is found dead of an apparent heroin overdose. Glover accompanies PO Anderton and CPO Adams in transporting his body to the "bomb shop" (torpedo bay) for storage. When it is decided that civilian Scottish Police Service detective DCI Amy Silva is to be allowed onboard Vigil to investigate Burkes death, Glover is assigned as her main liaison. After Silva and CPO Matthew Doward (Burke's replacement) are transported to Vigil, Glover shows Silva around and introduces her to Surgeon Lt. Tiffany Docherty, before escorting her to where Burkes body is stored. He does not answer her question regarding whether he thinks Burke killed himself, but remarks that he did like the man. After a brief examination, he is asked by Silva to immediately get the Captain.
